Robotic vacuums are a rapidly growing market, both in terms of technological development and widespread use. From machines that randomly sucked dirt from floors with the push of a button to the programmable units of today, vacuum cleaners have come a long way. A great example would be Roborock’s latest entry into the market, the S7 Robot Vacuum. Packed with innovative features, it’s sure to impress both seasoned and newbie robot vacuum users.

In this article, we’ll take a comprehensive look at Roborock’s newest product. Have a quick read to find out if this latest gadget is worth getting hold of, and if it lives up to all the hype.

The Roborock Company

Roborock was founded in July 2014 as Beijing Roborock Technology Co., Ltd. The company was created with the goal of researching, developing, and producing robotic and cordless vacuums.

In September of the same year, Xiaomi, a Chinese multinational electronics corporation, became a major investor in Roborock, and the company became one of Xiaomi’s ecological chain enterprise members.

The company released its first product, the Mi Home Robotic Vacuum Cleaner, in September 2016. This went on to become one of the best-selling robotic vacuum cleaners in China. Now, with several years of robotic vacuum cleaner development under its belt, it offers its latest product – the S7.

The Roborock S7 Robot Vacuum

Released on March 24, 2021, the S7 introduces what the company calls the “sonic mopping system.” This feature operates on the basis that deep-seated dirt isn’t removed by simple suction alone. Using sonic vibrations and a built-in 300 ml water tank, it scrubs dirt up to 3,000 times a minute to ensure a more thorough cleaning. This eliminates the need to go over dirty areas with a wet mop before proceeding to vacuum; the Roborock S7 handles the job effectively.

An intelligent mop lifting feature allows the S7 to clean areas with both hard floors and carpets at the same time. It mops hard floors to get rid of stubborn dirt, but will automatically lift the mop whenever it encounters carpeting. The included ultrasonic carpeting recognition technology identifies the presence of carpets in a room and stores that information in its memory. After one cleaning pass, you can set the Roborock S7 to clean the room on its own or program it to avoid selected areas.

The S7 also features an upgraded floating brush that gives it multiple planes of movement. This means that it can apply the brushes closer to surfaces, even when the flooring is uneven. This close contact ensures a more thorough cleaning.

The S7 also foregoes the bristle design of the older models by introducing an all-rubber fin brush. This makes the brush more durable and better at avoiding hair tangles. This design also allows the Roborock S7 to agitate dirt more effectively, making it easier for the vacuum to suck the dirt in.

Speaking of suction, the Roborock S7 comes with a HyperForce suction system that gives it about 2,500 Pa of suction force. This enables it to pick up even the finest dust from hard floors, entangled hair on carpeting, and pretty much everything in between.

The Roborock S7 comes with a 450 ml (15.21 ounce) dustbin, which means it can work for longer before the container needs to be emptied. Paired with the 300 ml (10.55 ounces) water container and the 5,000 mAh Lithium-Ion battery, it can keep working for several cleaning sessions before needing any sort of manual attention.

The Roborock S7 also lets users customize the cleaning schedule to their desired levels. Precision mapping allows the S7 to create detailed maps of a room to provide for full automation, while its route-tracking feature reminds it of the areas that have already been cleaned. Cleaning intensity can be individually adjusted for different areas if you wish, and restricted areas can be set if desired. The S7 also comes with scheduling capabilities, allowing you to set fixed cleaning times when necessary.

The S7 is compatible with third-party smart home applications like the Google Assistant, Amazon’s Alexa, and Apple’s Siri. This lets you control the S7 using voice commands for ease of use.

All of this is further enhanced by a planned auto-empty dock slated for release later in 2021slated for release later in 2021, which will further reduce the amount of manual maintenance you’ll need to do. The Roborock S7 is perfect for those with busy schedules who want to spend time on the more important things in life.

Below are quick reviews of Roborock’s other robot vacuum products.

Roborock S6 MaxV

The Roborock S6 MaxV was the company’s last robotic vacuum before the release of the anticipated S7. It has been touted by the company as having another level of intelligence, with twin front cameras that allow for more reactive mapping AI.

The Roborock S6 MaxV features intelligent obstacle avoidance and obstacle recognition. The twin cameras give the S6 MaxV depth perception to not only recognize obstacles in its path but also identify how large and far away they are. It’s also equipped with an infrared navigation system that enables it to work in the dark. This gives the user the option to schedule cleaning activities at any time, whether day or night.

For those concerned about their privacy, the cameras themselves don’t record anything. Nothing is duplicated or uploaded anywhere. It even has a certification for security and privacy from TUV Rheinland, a third-party security and certification firm.

The real-time mapping feature alerts the user to any obstacles in the room via the app. This lets users know if anything in the room needs their attention.

The S6 MaxV gives 2,500 Pa of suction power, cleaning even the most stubborn of stains. With an average operating time of about 180 minutes per full charge, it’s intended to clean homes of up to 300 square meters in floor area.

Roborock S5 Max

The Roborock S5 Max operates on the mantra of ‘everyday mopping made easy.’ With the features that it has, it certainly achieves that goal.

The S5 Max was engineered for automated mopping. Its larger water tank and precision water control features allow users to customize the cleaning activity of this robot vacuum. Combine this with laser precision mapping and the advanced navigation features that Roborock is known for, and you have a cleaning powerhouse.

The large water tanks can clean up to 2,600 square feet of floor space before needing a refill. This makes everyday mopping a simple act of refilling the tank and setting a schedule. The water controls allow you to set the water flow to fit the floor surface being cleaned. This is certainly a high-tech automated mopping solution.

The vacuum itself packs 2,000 Pa of suction force. This is enough to pick up even AA batteries scattered on the floor. All of which makes cleaning carpets a breeze as its brushes were made to pick up even stubborn dirt and hair.

The battery itself can operate for up to 180 minutes before needing a recharge. It can be integrated with third-party smart home apps like Alexa, Sir, and Google Assistant to ensure connectivity.

Roborock S5

The Roborock S5 offers sweeping and mopping, smart zone cleaning, great obstacle avoidance, and precise sensors. It’s a powerful yet compact robot vacuum that provides top-notch cleaning performance.

The Roborock S5 is equipped with a vacuum cyclone 3D system that uses high static pressure to assist with suction. Its 2,000 Pa suction power even allows it to pick up heavy dirt particles with ease.

It has an obstacle clearance of about 2 cm, giving it the ability to bypass cables and other obstructions. This, coupled with its highly customizable cleaning scheduler, gives users more reliable cleaning setups.

The Roborock S5 is equipped with carpet identification sensors that enable it to recognize carpeting. This means that it can turn up the suction power so it can pick up deep-seated dirt, then lower it when it returns to hard flooring.

The filter included with the Roborock S5 can capture up to 95% of dust, allergens, and mold, even for up to a year of prolonged use. The filter is washable, though scrubbing should be avoided in order to not puncture the filter itself.

The omnidirectional wheels prevent cable or hair tangles that often hamper other robot vacuums. Along with its omnidirectional bumper sensor, this allows it to keep on cleaning even in an obstacle-rich room.

Roborock S4 Max

The Roborock S4 Max operates on the premise of uncompromising, intelligent robot vacuuming. The S4 series is dedicated to vacuuming only, without the mopping features of other Roborock devices. Its multi-level mapping features, advanced clean scheduling, and total app control make it one of the more customizable robot vacuums available.

Using the app, you can drop both no-go zones and invisible walls to better define cleaning activity areas in your home. With the real-time locator, you can easily see where the Roborock S4 Max is at all times. Paired with its auto-navigation systems, you can either set the S4 Max to automatically clean on its own, or guide it every step of the way. The choice is yours.

Its 2,000 Pa power vacuum sucks up all but the toughest dirt, and its automatic carpet boost ramps the power up whenever it detects carpets. A single full charge gives it up to 180 minutes of operation, cleaning up to 300 square meters of floor space. Its washable filters capture up to 95% of allergens and mold in the air to make sure that cleaned areas stay clean.

The large 460 ml dustbin allows it to keep on cleaning without you having to constantly keep an eye on it. It really does provide intelligent robot vacuuming for the detail-oriented user.

Roborock S4

The Roborock S4 operates on the premise of better navigation for more thorough automatic or scheduled cleaning activities.

Paired with the advanced app controls, this certainly is an ideal robot vacuum for complicated or obstacle-ridden environments. The Roborock S4 has a re-engineered drivetrain that makes the device very hard to trap. It can move in and out of tight spaces, making it ideal for more cramped rooms.

The precision laser navigation ensures that even though the Roborock S4 avoids the obstacles in its way, it still provides a thorough cleaning. When you couple this with the zone-cleaning feature, virtual walls, and no-go zones, you can fully customize cleaning activities.

Its 2,000 Pa suction power can operate for up to 150 minutes, or 180 minutes while in quiet mode. Its 5,200 mAh battery can keep on cleaning on a single full charge. It can clean from about 250 to 300 square meters of floor space depending on the operation type.

As with all Roborock robotic vacuums, the S4 can integrate with third-party apps like Siri, Google Assistant, and Alexa. This allows users to control the device either via the mobile app or through voice control if they wish to. It’s certainly a great device to integrate into your smart home setup.

Roborock E4

The Roborock E4 is one of the company’s older models that’s designed for easy and effective home cleaning. Though lacking several features of the more recent models, it still provides great cleaning results for its users.

The Roborock E4 operates through inertial navigation and an internal wall and obstacle map. Combined with its highly tuned sensors, it can automatically clean a room with minimal fuss and maintenance. The app can be used to schedule cleaning activity, but that isn’t the only method of control. The Roborock E4 is Wi-Fi ready and compatible with third-party smart home apps like Alexa, Google Assistant, and Siri.

The amount of customizability for the E4 gives users a wide range of control from suction levels to cleaning and no-go zones.

Although the E4 doesn’t come with a built-in mop like the more recent models, it can be fitted with a mopping attachment. This attachment allows you to adjust the water flow for different cleaning surfaces.

The Roborock E4 is equipped with carpet-detection sensors that turn up the power whenever it senses carpeting. This encourages better use of its up to 200-minute full-charge operating time.

Roborock E3

Also known as the Roborock Xiaowa Path Planning Robovac, this device has a dual gyroscopic inertial navigation system for planning the most efficient cleaning routes.

This system allows the robotic vacuum to perform straight-line cleaning without having to turn haphazardly while vacuuming. The gyroscopes sense any change to the position of the device’s angle to enable it to efficiently clean whether on flat surfaces, avoiding obstacles, or being lifted.

The electronic eye on the bottom of the robotic vacuum detects movement and transmits it to its internal mapping processor. This system ensures efficient cleaning and reduces redundant vacuuming of already-cleaned areas.

The Roborock E3 comes with an auto-recharge and resumption function that will enable the device to pick up where it left off before charging. This feature means that cleaning schedules are more easily met and cleaning activities are very efficiently planned.

Like the E4, the E3 can be fitted with a mop attachment. This can be easily slotted in and out of the bottom of the robotic vacuum for ease of use when needed. The mop attachment operates on a plant-inspired wet mopping system. This allows the mop to slowly absorb the water in the attachment’s tank giving it the ability to mop for up to 45 to 60 minutes on one full tank.

As with all Roborock vacuums, the E3 is Wi-Fi ready and can be integrated with third-party apps like Google Assistant, Amazon’s Alexa, or Apple’s Siri.

Roborock E2

Also known as the Xiaowa E2 Robot Vacuum cleaner, this model has been marketed under the slogan of methodical cleaning perfection. Although that itself is a tall order, it does have many features that make it an efficient cleaning device.

The autonomous route-planning feature gives the device real-time route adjustment to make sure that all corners of the room are cleaned efficiently. Its gyroscopes ensure that any planned cleaning routes are followed, and even obstacles or lifting doesn’t make it lose its route.

As with the E3, it has an electric eye that gives detailed room information to its internal mapping system. This reduces or even eliminates redundant sweeping, making cleaning faster. It also has an auto-recharge and resume system; the vacuum can autonomously proceed to the charging dock, then return to where it left off before. All you need to do is schedule a cleaning activity and the Roborock E2 will handle it for you.

As with other robotic vacuums in the E series, this model can be fitted with a mopping attachment when necessary. Its carpet-detection system, on the other hand, can adjust the power of its vacuum to deal with more stubborn carpet areas.

As with all Roborock robotic vacuums, this model is Wi-Fi ready and compatible with third-party apps like Google Assistant, Amazon’s Alexa, and Apple’s Siri.
